Water Supply Drill Valatie 09/15/18
On Saturday September 15th at 8 am the Valatie Task Force in conjunction with 2-the-Point Training held a large Scale Mutual Aid water supply drill. Members from Valatie, Niverville, Kinderhook, Stuyvsant, Tri-Village, and Ghent fire companies participated. The goal of this drill was to maintain a set GPM of water continuously without interruption. As many of you know, water supply on a fire scene can become hectic and many times attacks crews lose water pressure. Through out this drill crews were able to maintain 400 GPM to start and increase to 800 GPM with out ever losing water pressure. Total gallons flowed in the four hour drill period was 81,000. Six tankers were filled from two water sources and dumped at the fill site where there were three portable ponds waiting. Water was taken from the ponds using jet siphons and hard suction and then pumped to the "attack" engine. 2-The-Point training was hired to discuss and teach proper techniques on being efficient in water supply operations. Forty-one Firefighters and two members of 2-The-Point Training were on hand for this drill.
