Motorcycle Accident Route 66 Ghent 05/05/18
Columbia County 911 dispatched West Ghent Firefighters and Greenport Rescue at 12:03p.m. for a reported motorcycle accident. The accident occurred on Route 66 near Whittier Way in the Town of Ghent.
Stottville Firefighters responded mutual aid to set up a landing zone at the Columbia County Airport. One subject was flown to Albany Medical Center.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Department investigated.

COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE
Ghent, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on May 5, 2018 at approximately 12:05pm, Deputy Sheriff’s were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a personal injury motorcycle accident on State Route 66, just north of Whittier Way in the Town of Ghent.
Deputies found that a 2002 Victory motorcycle, operated by 70 year old Ronald L. Hinkel of Valatie, was driving southbound on State Route 66 and lost control of the bike when the kickstand came down making contact with the road. The motorcycle, with operator still aboard, went off the west side of the roadway and down on its side, sliding on a grassy area nearly striking a tree, and then coming to rest after making impact with a large shrub. There were no passengers on the motorcycle.
Mr. Hinkel was transported by Greenport Rescue Squad to the Columbia County Airport, where he was transferred to LifeNet flight to be airlifted to Albany Medical Center for internal injuries. In addition, the operator also had injuries to his hand, leg, and lacerations to his face.
The investigation is continuing.
