Fuel Tanker strikes utility pole Route 9H Ghent 04/26/18
Columbia County 911 dispatched West Ghent Firefighters and Greenport Rescue at 11:46am for a report of a fuel tanker that struck a utility pole on Route 9h near Bender Boulevard in the Town of Ghent. It was reported that wires were down and the tanker was leaking fuel. Mutual aid departments were: Claverack, Stottville, and Ghent. The Columbia County HazMat Team also was requested to the scene.

The Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office, Columbia County EMS Coordinators Office, National Grid, New York State Electric and Gas, New York State Department of Transportation, and Columbia County Highway Department were all on the scene.

One subject refused medical treatment.

State Route 9H was closed during the incident.

Commmand reported that approximately three gallons of fuel was spilled.

​The New York State Police investigated.

Firefighters were back in service at 6:14pm.
