Fire on the tracks Chatham 10/27/16
The Chatham Fire Department responded to report of fire on the tracks at the
rail switch located on Locust Street near Prospect Street in the village on
October 27 shortly after 5PM.
Upon arrival, the smoke was found to be coming from a rail switch that was
covered with leaves. Rail traffic was temporarily halted while the
firefighters watered down the area and cleared the switch of the leaves and
other debris that had accumulated.
Responding units included the department's engine/pumper, fire police van, 9
volunteer firefighters and three chiefs.
Units were back in service around 5:40.
The all-volunteer department is committed to maintaining a high state of
training and readiness in order to provide safe and comprehensive prevention
and fire response services in the village and surrounding areas.
