COVANTA B-3 TRANSFER STATION FIRE CANAAN 07/15/16

Columbia County 911 dispatched the Canaan Task Force and Chatham Rescue at 6:12pm for a reported structure fire across from the Love's Truck Stop on Route 22 in Canaan. Firefighters from Canaan, Lebanon Valley, East Chatham and Red Rock initially responded. 

The fire was determined to be at the Covanta B-3 Transfer Station located at 25 Flints Crossing Road. 

Command requested mutual aid from West Stockbridge and Richmond fire departments. Later in the incident Command requested tankers from Battalion 5. This brought additional firefighters from Austerlitz, Niverville, North Chatham, TriVillage, and Chatham to the scene.

The Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office, New York State Department of Conservation and Columbia County Sheriff's Department were on the scene.

Two firefighters were transported to Berkshire Medical Canter with smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were back in service at 12:57am.
