04/02/15 Apartment Building Fire Old Lane Ext. Claverack
Columbia County 911 dispatched Claverack Firefighters, and Greenport Rescue at 5:31am. for a reported structure fire at 222 Old Lane Extension in the Town of Claverack. Under automatic mutual aid Greenport Firefighters were dispatched with their F.A.S.T. team. Command requested additional mutual aid to the scene from Mellenville. Philmont Firefighters stood by at the Claverack Station.
The building was reported to be a four unit apartment building.
National Grid and the Claverack Town Building Inspector were requested to the scene.
The Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office, New York State Police and Columbia County Sheriff's Department were on the scene.
The Columbia County Cause & Origin Team was called to investigate.
Command reported the cause to be unattended cooking on a stove. There was fire damage to the apartment of origin and smoke and water damage to the other apartments.
Greenport Rescue treated one occupant of the apartment at the scene and another occupant was transported to CMH in Hudson.
Firefighters were back in service at 9:33am.
UPDATE 04/03/15
Claverack Fire Chief Cozzolino advised ColumbiaPage that the female occupant of the apartment where the fire occurred was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center via Lifenet Thursday morning around 9AM for inhalation injuries. (Initially transported to CMH via GRS then transferred to GRS Unit 1 for LifeNet pickup).
UPDATE 04/04/15
Also from Chief Cozzolino~ The female occupant of the apartment across the hall from the fire apartment was admitted to CMH later Thursday morning. She was admitted to the ICU and put on a ventilator overnight for carbon monoxide poisoning. As of Friday afternoon she is off the ventilator and improving greatly.
