NYS TF-2 (Urban Technical Search and Rescue Team) left Albany on 11-2-09 for a MOBEX called Vigilant Guard and returned on 11-4-09.

The extensive drill was designed to test the capabilities of USAR teams from: Albany (TF-2), Yonkers, NYC, Ohio, Penn, NH, Vt, NC, Canada and Denmark.  The National Guard worked along with these teams.   Several rescue scenarios were used in this simulated earthquake as you can see in the photos.

TF-2 provided our Specialists in: Heavy Rigging (crane operators), Structures (engineers / surveyors), K-9 teams, Hazmat, Medial, Technical Teams, Communications, Rescue Specialists, Safety, and Logistics.

Our team encountered mud, rain, snow and cold - all real life situations.  Real life simulations were the norm for this exercise.  Various types of extrications were needed and situations were changed daily.   Many live victims were in place for rescue along with several interactive manikins provided by the National Guard.

Drills of this magnitude are essential for teams to practice their skills and develop good working relationships.
