Columbia County 911 received a report of a two vehicle serious accident with fire, entrapment
and multiple patients at the intersection of Rtoute 295 and Route 22 in Canaan. Canaan Firefighters and Lebanon Valley Rescue
were dispatched at 20:41. Lebanon Valley Rescue requested mutual aid ambulances from Chatham and County.
Chatham responded with 203 and County sent ambulances 521 and 663.
A-1 requested a helicopter, that already
had been placed on standby by Columbia 911, to respond to the scene.
Canaan Command requested East Chatham Firefighters
to the scene to handle the Landing Zone that was in front of Mep's BBQ on Route 22 just south of the accident scene.
Canaan Command requested Lebanon Valley Firefighters to the scene with their jaws.
It was reported
to ColumbiaPage that the car was traveling north on Route 22 when it ran the red light and struck the pickup truck that was
traveling west on Route 295. The pickup truck driver appeared to have been ejected. The car and truck ended up in the lot
of Bar-Ken Service after hitting several parked cars.
The three patients in the car were transported
by ground to BMC in Pittsfield, MA. The operator of the pickup truck was transported by LifeNet 71 to Albany Medical Center.
The intersection was closed for several hours.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Department responded their
accident reconstruction team and is investigating the accident.
Canaan Fire units
cleared the scene at 01:32 Saturday morning.
