The East Chatham Fire Company celebrated its 75th anniversary on Saturday September 19, 2009. The
company held an open house for the community at its station located at 14 Frisbee Street.
There were historical
displays, face painting, a fire extinguisher simulator, sparky the fire dog, safe child cards by the Columbia County
Sheriff's Department, a bake sale, 50/50 raffle and a summertime lunch.
At 1PM member and past Chief Wayne
Gearing gave a short speech on the history of the company. Current Chief Matt Distin and President John Stelling
handed out certificates of appreciation. Certificates were given to members or family of past members to all Life
Members, Past Chiefs, Past Presidents and Charter members.
62 year member Franklin Gearing was on hand
to enjoy the festivities.
Past Chief Wayne Gearing won the 50/50 raffle and donated the winnings back to the company.
